Become a pirate for our #LibraryLubber video contest and win an iPad Pro!

We love the world’s cultures too much to say we have a favorite holiday. But if we had to pick, International Talk Like a Pirate Day would be the one.

*Please note: Although this contest has concluded, Mango's Pirate course lives on. Learn everything you need to know to parely in perfect Pirate with Mango's free Pirate language lessons. Log in or create a profile to explore arrr Pirate course today!

Every year we anxiously await Sep. 19, when we get to break out our eyepatches, exchange our cash for gold doubloons, and conduct all office communication with plenty of s’arrrcasm. We want to spread the fun, so this year we’re calling on all aspiring buccaneers to learn the language, record their own pirate escapades, and post their creation to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #LibraryLubber. The prize? The ultimate treasure for any library lubbin’ pirate — an iPad Pro.

Entering your ship in the race.

Entering is simple. First, access Mango’s Pirate course through your library to brush up on your pirate lingo. Then, craft a video showcasing your pirate skills. This is your chance to get creative – anything goes as long as it celebrates the prestige of being a pirate. Decorate your car like a Spanish galleon and sail the interstate while singing with ye’ mates. Educate your followers on the dangers of scurvy. Or maybe just tell a terrifically bad pirate joke. Whatever your cinematic masterpiece entails, be sure to post it to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #LibraryLubber and make sure you shout out your library in the video.

You have until 11:59:59 p.m. on Sep. 19, 2016 to post your entry. Come Sep. 20, the Mango Pirate Council will choose their favorite three videos and handsomely reward the creators with booty – an iPad Pro for the top pirate director and an iPad Mini each for the next two sailors in command. But avast ye’ — know the Pirate Council will be particularly fond of videos that demonstrate a true lub for libraries. So raise your library’s Jolly Roger and you’ll be that much closer to the treasure you seek.

But what about libraries?

We’re glad you asked. While patrons are competing for their prizes, libraries have their own treasure to seek. Libraries are tasked with creating pirate videos that encourage their patrons to study the pirate dialect through Mango. Once filmed, upload the video to your library’s official Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #LibraryLubber.

But while uploading a pirate video enters your library into the contest, it doesn’t end there. The winning library will be the one with the greatest engagement with Mango’s Pirate course leading up to International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Once determined by Mango’s Pirate Data Analysts, the top pirate library will be rewarded with an iPad Pro to supplement its digital offerings.

Arrr you ready to begin your pirate adventure?
