Mango Scholarships 2016: Celebrating Language and Culture on Campus

Feb 2, 2016 9:00:00 AM / by Jillian Rodriguez

College students, gather ‘round. We’re collecting language and culture stories around the proverbial Higher Ed campfire, and we want to hear yours.

If you know Mango (and if you don’t, we can’t wait to meet you!), you know that the work we do is fueled by our core mission of enriching lives with language and culture. We’re so excited to elevate our message and support deserving students with three Mango scholarships of $1,000 each to those currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs. We know that language and cultural diversity has the power to positively impact the lives of others (it’s our mission statement!), and we want to hear your story.

How has language and culture enriched your life? To apply, all we ask is that you answer that one simple question - and that you get as creative as possible. There are no limits to how you share your story with us. Break out your shadow puppets, dust off your cello, grab your GoPro, pull out your paint palette, serenade us in another language - however you want to shout out your story, we’re all ears.

It really is that simple. We don’t think that applying for college scholarships should be complicated - here’s what we’re looking for. To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at a college or university in the U.S. - and you have to have plans to continue as an enrolled student in Fall 2016. Stay in school, kids.

We’re also looking for candidates who will be at least 18 years old on or before September 1, 2016. If you’re below that age, we encourage you to stick with us and apply next year. The deadline to apply for our scholarships is March 31, 2016 at 11:59 EST. You’ll submit all of your application materials online, and we’re not taking any late submissions - we’re just like that really tough professor you had last semester. We do it out of love.

Now, onto the scholarship application. This is where the real fun begins. You’ll fill out a quick 1-page application, telling us a little about yourself and your education. We’ll also need an electronic copy of your college or university transcript. That’s it for formalities - the rest is up to you. This scholarship is all about how language and culture have enriched your life and impacted who you are.

Use this opportunity to speak your truth on how these two pillars have impacted your life. Maybe it was that study abroad trip to Spain that changed your perspective on global citizenship. Maybe it comes down to the stories that your grandpa used to tell about his journey to the United States. Maybe you want to tell us about the first time you read a book in English from cover to cover without the help of translation tools. Whatever your story is, we want to hear it. And for three deserving, creative students, your story could land you one of Mango’s three scholarships this year. One note on your submissions: we do ask that you keep the length of any video submissions to 3 minutes, and that anything you write for us is no longer than 3 pages. File size is limited to 10 mb.

These scholarships are all about finding and celebrating the ways that language and culture change the lives of students everywhere. As a company dedicated to creating fun, effective education tools, we want to support student learning and education goals. We want to hear from students of all backgrounds, disciplines, and areas of study. Your award doesn’t have to be expressly applied to fulfill a linguistic or cultural pursuit, but bonus points if that’s how you plan to use it. Most importantly, we’re looking for candidates who can’t contain their passion for language and culture; students who pull out all of the creative stops to share their message and stand side by side with Mango in our mission to enrich lives with language and culture.

Feeling inspired to apply or know a deserving student who fits the bill? The Mango scholarship application is ready and waiting for you. Remember, the deadline is March 31, 2016 at 11:59pm EST. Apply now and make your story heard!
