Mango Scholarships 2016: Spreading the Word on Campus

Feb 2, 2016 2:00:00 PM / by Jillian Rodriguez

Start spreading the news - our college scholarship program is here! This year, Mango Languages will be offering three scholarships of $1,000 each to undergraduate and graduate students to support their educational and learning goals.

Our mission is simple: we’re asking students to share how language and culture have enriched their lives. We want to elevate the conversation around the importance of language and culture diversity in education by collecting stories and experiences from today’s generation of learners. Three deserving students will be selected to receive a Mango scholarship to support their academic goals, and we’ll leverage their stories to inspire learners everywhere to keep embracing language and cultural diversity in their everyday lives.

How does it work? We’re glad you asked. This is not your average scholarship application. If you know Mango (and if you don’t, check us out!), you know that we believe learning should be fun, effective, and simple - and our products reflect that. We also believe that applying for scholarships should be pretty fun, too - and we think our application process reflects that.

This scholarship is all about answering one key question: how has language and culture enriched your life? There’s no right answer, and we’re not looking for an AP-style essay - in fact, we want students to let their creativity flow. We want your students to get cameras rolling, break out the watercolors, jump on the mic - however they want to express the ways that language and culture have impacted them, we’re all ears. For specific eligibility requirements and scholarship guidelines, check out Mango’s scholarship homepage for all the details.

For many students, scholarships provide the support they need to ensure that their academic goals are attainable. Students of all backgrounds face the pressures of college affordability and the costs of achieving their dreams, and we want to help. With these scholarships, we can support deserving students in pursuing their language and cultural goals, and beyond.

From now until the March 31, 2016 deadline, we want to hear from undergraduate and graduate students of all  backgrounds, disciplines, and areas of study. You can make sure your students are aware of and excited about Mango’s scholarships by spreading the word on campus. Looking for inspiration? We’ve rounded up some of our top ideas for letting students know that Mango is on a mission to support student achievement on campus - all in the name of celebrating language and culture.

Go on a scholarship shopping spree with Mango Market.

Have you logged onto Mango Market lately? We’ve updated your one-stop shop for all things Mango with an awesome section devoted to promoting Mango Scholarships on campus. Download fresh flyers, posters, downloadable graphics, social banners, and ensure that your students are hearing about their latest scholarship opportunity.

Deck the halls with Mango.

When it comes to spreading the word on campus, visibility is key. Get the word out by getting the information in front of your students in some of their favorite spots. Put flyers and posters up at the student union, in cafeterias, dorm halls, and in relevant academic buildings, like Study Abroad offices and International Centers. The news will spread in no time.

Keep staff and faculty in the loop.

Be sure to shoot an email with a link to Mango Scholarships to language and cultural leaders on your campus. Think foreign language professors, study abroad program coordinators, and staff and faculty working with international students. Encourage them to share the link with students and announce the scholarship to their classes. And act fast - that March 31 deadline will come up fast!

Go viral.

Where do students go for news and information these days? Social media. Be sure that you’re shouting out Mango Scholarships on relevant social pages for your college or university. We recommend posting on your school’s primary channels, plus any other channels that will reach potential candidates. You can retweet and share Mango’s posts about the scholarships, or create your own and use our electronic graphics from Mango Market.

Make it official.

Your students depend on campus resources like newsletters, the campus homepage, and the Office of Financial Aid to find the information that's most important to them. Ensure students can easily access scholarship opportunities by including them in email blasts and newsletters, and keep relevant campus pages updated with regular announcements about the latest opportunities.

Word of mouth.

Our final tip: talk about it. Nothing beats the power of word of mouth, and we love the idea of starting a conversation on campus about the impact of language and cultural diversity. Get your students excited about crafting a creative entry for Mango Scholarships and take the opportunity to highlight your campus’s unique language and cultural initiatives. Everybody wins.

Students can apply for Mango Scholarships now through March 31, 2016 at 11:59pm EST. Got questions or want to chat with us about the details of the program? Email us at scholarships@mangolanguages.com or give us a call to talk with one of our friendly customer care representatives.
