I'd dare anyone to learn Zulu (or related languages) for *clicks* and also amazing noun class systems.
But most mature languages have quite hair raising properties. I gave up on Russian when my very fast-paced class hit "aspects".
Should I mention Chinese Kanji?

I think only English native speakers would vote for English, for reasons of language patriotism. In terms of structure and pronunciation, it is really fairly simplistic compared to most other languages.

Marina! Great suggestions to simply believe you speak the language, and to practice it on the pets who will enjoy the attention.

I've got a similar condition (which I wrote about last month: http://anastasiaashman.wordpress.com/2010/02/10/self-mute/). I've studied 8 languages and speak none of them with any fluency. Traveled to 30 countries. Live a far-flung life. Still, no dice!

Will try the cat trick.

First of all, awesome article! I've got a little question bothering me, I really enjoy the theme of your site and tried to download the same theme on my Worpdress site. Yet, there is some kind of weird coding error in the footer. Do you have any tips, what settings are you using? Please PM me on Twitter @ThaiStuz or per e-mail.
